2008 SPIRIT SPECTACULAR

HYPE is pleased to announce that the 2008 Spirit Spectacular at Hartford Union High School is now open to teams!  This competition will be held the afternoon of Sunday, October 19th.  For division details, please click Here. 

PRE-REGISTRATION

The event registration deadline is Friday, September 18, 2008.  This means that all registration forms must be received on or before that date.  Any registrations received after that date will be discarded.  There will be no exceptions.

EVENT APPAREL FOR SALE

HYPE and Competition shirts will be For Sale.  Competition tops can be customized to include team names as well as all of the names of the team members.  Printing will be done on the spot!  Prices start at $15.00!  Check back to see the event competition logo.

EVENT VIDEO

As an option teams can pay an additional $25 to receive a professional competition Video / DVD.  This option can be selected on the registration form.  However, spectators may also purchase Videos / DVD on the day of the event.   

All team member names will be at the registration table.  The table will be set up to receive participant Waiver Forms, distribute coaches packets & to verify the number of participants entering with each team

* 4th Place Trophies will be awarded if there are 8 or more entries in a division.

* In the solo & small group division, participants will receive ribbons and / or medals.
* In the Pee-Wee / Youth Divisions all teams will receive trophies.
* Once awards are announced winners will be directed to take photos.

EVENT COST

Teams:

    *  1st Team Routine  -  $15.00 per team member
    *  Additional Routine -  Additional $50.00 per team
    *  An optional $25.00 for the purchase of the event video per team.

Stunt Groups:  (Cheer)     

  • $45.00 - Stunt Group I (3 Cheerleaders)

  • $60.00 - Stunt Group II (4 to 6 Cheerleaders)

Small Groups: (Dance)

  • $30.00 - Small Group I (2 to 4 Dancers)

  • $75.00 - Small Group II (5 to 7 Dancers)

Soloist: (Cheer & Dance)

  • $15.00 per person (in addition to team fees)

Spectator Entrance Fee:

  •     Children 2 & under enter for FREE

At HYPE's last competition food drive in March, together we collected 1, 163 lbs. of food!

RULES & REGULATIONS

The competition follows the standard NFHS rules, however a technical judge will not be present nor will points be directly deducted for violations.  It is however advised that coaches, advisors, and / or  choreographers be aware of and take appropriate measures to protect the safety of performers.  Rules & Regulations are put in place to minimize and even better eliminate injuries.  Judges are encouraged to make note of violations, which may affect their individual scores.

Competing teams may be checked for fingernails & jewelry and will be docked points if one or more performers are found in violation.

SPECTATOR ETIQUETTE:  Coaches please be advised to inform all guest to be respectful of performers before, during, and after their performances.  Disrespectful behavior includes but is not limited to walking during performances, rude or obscene comments through out the event, booing, etc.

JUDGES

Both the cheer & dance divisions will have two panels of highly qualified judges.  Each panel will always consist of three performance judges and one audio judge.  If a technical judge is added, participants will be notified.  At the end of the competition, coaches may pick up their score sheets and audio tape including real time verbal feedback. 

ROUTINE TIME LIMITS

Small Group Time (Dance):  1 min. & 30 secs.
Partner Stunt Time (Cheer):  2 mins. & 30 secs.
Team Time (Cheer & Dance): 2 mins. & 30 secs.
Drill / Step Team Time: 2 mins. & 30 secs.
  • Teams will not be penalized for routines less than the time limits listed above. 
  • Cheer Teams may use the time for an "All-Music" performance.
  • All Teams will receive an audio tape with verbal feedback with their score sheets

SCORING (Cheer & Dance)

Teams, small groups and individuals will be judged on:

  • 25 points:  Choreography / Creativity

  • 20 points:  Technical Ability / Fundamentals

  • 20 points:  Form

  • 15 points:  Showmanship / Presentation

  • 10 points:  Overall Appeal

  • 10 points:  Perfection of Routine
